Every time some kids pick up a guitar and try to play pure hard rock without a trace of compromise to modern trends, the universe gives me a sign—albeit a faint one these days—that there’s hope out there. All the more so when these kids come from across the Atlantic, honoring the glorious musical tradition of all those pioneers of the ’80s. That’s exactly what Rebels Opera does. They play old-school hard rock firmly rooted in the ’80s—and more specifically on the famous Sunset Boulevard, where it all began for this particular genre.
But the guys from Rebels Opera don’t stop there. They strive to leave their own mark, guided primarily by thunderous riffs and choruses that evoke the heyday of arena rock and bands like KIX, Ratt, and Cinderella. And while the road to the top and recognition may be long and difficult, Rebels Opera are giving it their all. Perhaps in other eras, things would have been more favorable for them. I don’t know. Be that as it may, what remains at the end of the day is a good song, and these Americans pour their heart and soul into their debut album, “Call of the Night.” And since we mentioned KIX earlier, it’s worth noting that Brian Forsythe is among the guest artists, adding an extra touch of glamour and sparkle to the album.
I know that “Call of the Night” will likely fly under the radar for most people out there. However, with songs like “She’s So Rock N’ Roll” and “Smile Now Cry Later,” Rebels Opera are laying the groundwork for something really great in the future. We wish them all the best…
