The news of the death of the renowned sound engineer Mikko Karmila at the age of 62 has cast a shadow of sadness across the Finnish music scene.
He is rightly regarded as the founder of the Finnish sound, having played a significant role in shaping the sound of bands such as Nightwish, Amorphis, Children of Bodom, Kalmah, Stratovarius, Kotiteollisuus and Sonata Arctica, whilst also collaborating with numerous acts outside Finland, including Edguy, Avantasia, Masterplan, Therion, Kipelov and many others.
