Clive Davis, the music producer who founded the record labels Arista Records and J Records and helped shape the careers of legendary artists such as Whitney Houston, Bruce Springsteen, Aretha Franklin, Carlos Santana, Janis Joplin, and many others, passed away on Monday at his home in New York. He was 94 years old.
His death was confirmed by his longtime spokesperson, Aliza Rabinoff, who added in a statement that “he passed away peacefully due to an illness related to advanced age…surrounded by his family and loved ones.” Davis had been dealing with various health issues in recent years. In late May, he was hospitalized in New York due to an upper respiratory issue. He was discharged a few days later, and a spokesperson stated at the time that the music mogul was “in good spirits and happy to be recovering at home.”
