Another live album for the great Y&T, just after the release of the very good “Facemelter” album, and a year after Phil Kennemore’s, the band’s original bass player, and Dave Meniketti’s best friend, passing. Of course, this was a huge lost, first in personal, and then in musical level, that even a band with almost 40 years career might find hard to overcome. However, it seems that Y&T found on Brad Lang a worthy replacement, and with this live recording they send a loud message that they will go on.
The choice of songs for this double CD is really interesting with the classics, such as Black Tiger”, “Forever”, “Mean Streak”, “Dirty Girl”, “Rescue Me”, together with some new, off “Facemelter”, “Facemelter”, τα “On With The Show”, “Shine On”, “Blind Patriot”, “Gonna Go Bllind”, “Don’t Bring Me Down”, and the rest drawn from the band’s discography. It cam as a surprise to me the fact that they play two songs from the mediocre “Ten” album, Girl Crazy” and “Surrender”, and not “Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark”. I guess Meniketti wants to stress out that even on an average album you can find great tunes. The same goes for “Eyes Of A Stranger”, from “Contagious”.
In general, the band puts its heart and soul on stage, something that has always been its trademark anyway. Meniketti on vocals and guitar is amazing pushing the entire band to a frenzy performance. Finally, due to the fact that there are a lot of arguments whether live recordings nowadays are real, and not overdubbed in the studio, I don’t think we should even discuss about that when the band in question is Y&T. For all non-believers the truth is coming soon to a club near you! Y&T are about to play their first show in Greece on September 15th…
