I truly believe the term “Supergroup”, which was given to this project, is totally inappropriate, it’s even “colorful”… I mean, seriously? Supergroup? I adore Adrian Smith, Adrian Smith is a mega-master songmaker and arranger and musician in general, but… Supergroup? We are talking about two musicians participating, featuring a drummer playing their tracks cuz they probably can not do that themselves. Tons of arrogance by the ones in charge of promotion who obviously think they can do whatever they feel like cuz Maiden got it all covered…
Adrian Smith and Mikee Goodman (ex SikTh) go back a while and apparently they concurred on the musical style they’d love to be involved with. Styles points to Psycho Motel a bit; it was a cool thing back then, those two albums were loved by a bunch of peeps. As Smith himself stated, they were working over his place, not having to worry about time limits and stuff.
Regarding music now, it’s just showing it’s the brainchild of Adrian. Riffs, choruses ideas, setup. Apart from the guitars, he’s also played bass, he’s written and composed and arranged most of the material. Mikee owns a distinctive voice, he can make beautiful screams, he can sing clean cut choruses. To tell you the truth though, when listening to this album, I couldn’t help thinking that it would sound way better, with Mike Patton or Whitfield Crane on vocals, however, this is just my opinion and nothing more. Video “No place like home” is a charmer, with more songs waiting to be loved, like “Tortured tone” and “Search for bliss” and wonderful “Mirror and the moon”.
Ex SikTh drummer, Dan Foord, is also present here, behind the kit, whilst there are two more guest musicans, Tarin Kerry (back vox on three of the songs) and Aby Fry (viola).
