Eric Blair of "The Blairing Out With Eric Blair Show" conducted an interview with Wendy Dio, wife and longtime manager of legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio, at the second annual Bowl 4 Ronnie bowling party, benefiting the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up And Shout Cancer Fund, which was held on November 4 at the Pinz bowling center in Studio City, California.
Asked if there are any "hidden gems" in the Ronnie archives, Wendy said: "Well, you know we just did 'A Decade Of Dio' [box set] that Rhino put out with the six albums that they own. I have four albums that I own after that, and we have some precious things in the archives, which we're gonna put out and add on there, and I think Rhino will put it out next year."

For the fourth consecutive time we gathered at Kyttaro to honor our beloved one Ronnie and be part of the charity action of Rock’n’Roll Children, the Greek Dio tribute band.

AN UNRELEASED DIO SONG

Published in News

Guitarist Craig Goldy (Resurrection Kings, Dio) joins Mark Strigl for his first interview since the death of bassist Jimmy Bain on episode 583 of Talking Metal. He shares memories of working with Bain while in Dio. He also mentions that there is a new Dio song on the way. The track was written and recorder shortly before Dio’s death.

About this unreleased song, Goldy said: “Me and Ronnie were writing before he passed. That was one of the most proudest and saddest moments of my life. At one point the doctor gave Ronnie a complete bill of health and Wendy (Dio, wife/manager) looked at him and says ‘the doctor says you can do anything you want to do now’. She goes, ‘What do you want to do?’ Ronnie looked at Wendy and said, ‘write with Craig’. So we started writing and there is one song that hasn’t been released yet and we’re getting ready to do that at some point.

According to guitarist Craig Goldy, Dio Disciples are working on a studio album that is planned to be out by next summer. All the songs will be written by former Dio members who are “close to the Dio family”. According to SleazeRoxx he said: "We’re negotiating with a record company as we speak. At the moment, the goal is to have an album written and recorded and have it out by the summer of 2017. The idea is to have songs written by people that were in the Dio band or close to the Dio family. Also, the other criteria is that the songs would be done in a manner which Ronnie would approve." They are also looking for a younger producer to give them a “current sound”. "The goal is to put together an album that will be outstanding. We want top-notch songs on the record”, he adds. Dio Disciples recently played at Wacken Open Air with Ronnie James Dio’s hologram on stage, something they are planning to bring on the road for their future tour.

The annual charity concert “Rock In Dio” was scheduled on the same day of the tragic anniversary of Ronnie James Dio passing. I guess that most of you know about this project, so I am going to cut to the chase!

HEAR 'N AID 2015

Published in News

Ronnie James Dio's widow/manager Wendy Dio has confirmed

that a modern-day version of HEAR 'N AID, the one-time collaboration of various individual heavy metal/hard rock artists in 1985 to raise money for famine relief in Africa, will be assembled to record a new song that will be released alongside the upcoming reissue of the "Stars" single and video documentary on the making of the original HEAR 'N AID record.

Ronnie James Dio's sinister howl and wicked songcraft bewitched hard rock fans in the seventies and eighties during his memorable stints with ELF, RAINBOW and BLACK SABBATH. In 1983, the singer formed his own band, launching a successful solo career that led to ten studio albums and sales of more than ten million records around the world.
Rhino follows DIO through the band's early years with "A Decade Of Dio: 1983-1993", a new boxed set that brings together the group's first six studio albums, each one featuring newly remastered sound. It includes: "Holy Diver" (1983), "The Last In Line" (1984), "Sacred Heart" (1985), "Dream Evil" (1987), "Lock Up The Wolves" (1990) and "Strange Highways" (1993).
Rhino will release two versions of "A Decade Of Dio: 1983-1993", first on CD and then on vinyl. Both versions come housed in boxes featuring new artwork by Marc Sasso, who was responsible for many of the band's iconic covers. The CD set will debut on July 22 for a list price of $34.98.
The vinyl incarnation of the set will be available on October 4 for $99.98, and comes with a bonus seven-inch single. On the first side is the 1983 version of "Evil Eyes", which was originally released as the b-side on the "Holy Diver" single. In addition, this version is different from the one featured on the 1984 album "The Last In Line". The flip side features "Time To Burn", which was the only studio track featured on the otherwise live release "Intermission" (1986)

DIO LIVE IN A HOLOGRAM

Published in News

This year’s Wacken Open Air Festival had a surprise in store for the fans as Dio Disciples performed accompanied by a hologram of Ronnie who was singing along. You can watch the result on the video below, which was actually a one year’s worth of work from  Eyellusion company. Actually, this was the first time that something like this was presented in a live concert ever. Meanwhile, there is a tour being scheduled using Dio’s hologram with Dio Disciples who are: Craig Goldy (Dio), bassist Bjorn Englen (Yngwie Malmsteen), keyboardist Scott Warren (Dio, Heaven & Hell), and drummer Simon Wright (Dio, AC/DC, UFO). For the fifth consecutive time Rock’n’Roll Children, the Greek Dio tribute band will play their annual charity concert this Saturday May 16th at Kyttaro, in Athens. The proceedings will go to Lampsi foundation which was established in Thessaloniki in 1987 from parents from around Northern Greece whose children developed cancer and were hospitalized in Thessaloniki. This time together with Rock’n’Roll Children (Yiannis Papanikolaou – vocals, Manolis Tsigkos – guitar, Yiannis Tsimas – bass, George Georgiou -  keyboards, Nikos Anastasiadis – drums) 70 Greek musicians will share the stage handling vocals, guitars, bass, keyboards, and drums. DIO's HOLOGRAM ON...TOUR

Published in News

A hologram of the late Ronnie James Dio made its U.S. debut last month at the 28th annual Pollstar Awards at the The Novo (formerly Club Nokia) in Los Angeles, California. Created by Eyellusion, the appearance of the heavy metal icon took place during a performance by DIO DISCIPLES, which pays tribute to Ronnie and is fully supported by his widow/manager, Wendy.
The Dio hologram was first introduced at last year's Wacken Open Air festival in Germany.
Jeff Pezzuti, CEO of Eyellusion, recently spoke to AXS.com about plans for a tour featuring the hologram, which will showcase various eras of the legendary metal singer's career.
"The tour is currently being routed and we are hoping to make an announcement for an end of year kickoff in the coming months. This is not just about the U.S. It is truly a world tour. Ronnie's fans are spread around the world and we intend to bring this exciting show to as many as we can. The show will not only feature Ronnie and his band but also live singers like Tim 'Ripper' Owens and others to complete the overall show vision. The show will feature effects and stage design that Ronnie made famous in the '80s and will also incorporate new technology into what will be some pretty awesome special effects. It will be a fun experience for all ages, and a way to experience the incredible catalog [RAINBOW, BLACK SABBATH, DIO] that Ronnie made famous. We will feature both the expected songs, as well as some crowd favorites that will be surprises."
