On this day seven years ago we lost one of the greatest frontmen in our music, Ronnie James Dio. It’s certain that his voice, music and personality touched every one of us, while his loss is one of the worst we have experienced so far. As a small tribute to the great artist we uploaded a small excerpt from his performance in 2005 at Rockwave Festival as well as a quote from the interview he gave us back then talking about his fans, all of us, and how they grant him immortality…

The annual charity concert “Rock In Dio” was scheduled on the same day of the tragic anniversary of Ronnie James Dio passing. I guess that most of you know about this project, so I am going to cut to the chase!

DIO LIVE IN A HOLOGRAM

Published in News

This year’s Wacken Open Air Festival had a surprise in store for the fans as Dio Disciples performed accompanied by a hologram of Ronnie who was singing along. You can watch the result on the video below, which was actually a one year’s worth of work from  Eyellusion company. Actually, this was the first time that something like this was presented in a live concert ever. Meanwhile, there is a tour being scheduled using Dio’s hologram with Dio Disciples who are: Craig Goldy (Dio), bassist Bjorn Englen (Yngwie Malmsteen), keyboardist Scott Warren (Dio, Heaven & Hell), and drummer Simon Wright (Dio, AC/DC, UFO). As far as the moral part of the story… we leave it up to you to decide.

DIO's HOLOGRAM ON...TOUR

Published in News

A hologram of the late Ronnie James Dio made its U.S. debut last month at the 28th annual Pollstar Awards at the The Novo (formerly Club Nokia) in Los Angeles, California. Created by Eyellusion, the appearance of the heavy metal icon took place during a performance by DIO DISCIPLES, which pays tribute to Ronnie and is fully supported by his widow/manager, Wendy.
The Dio hologram was first introduced at last year's Wacken Open Air festival in Germany.
Jeff Pezzuti, CEO of Eyellusion, recently spoke to AXS.com about plans for a tour featuring the hologram, which will showcase various eras of the legendary metal singer's career.
"The tour is currently being routed and we are hoping to make an announcement for an end of year kickoff in the coming months. This is not just about the U.S. It is truly a world tour. Ronnie's fans are spread around the world and we intend to bring this exciting show to as many as we can. The show will not only feature Ronnie and his band but also live singers like Tim 'Ripper' Owens and others to complete the overall show vision. The show will feature effects and stage design that Ronnie made famous in the '80s and will also incorporate new technology into what will be some pretty awesome special effects. It will be a fun experience for all ages, and a way to experience the incredible catalog [RAINBOW, BLACK SABBATH, DIO] that Ronnie made famous. We will feature both the expected songs, as well as some crowd favorites that will be surprises."

HEAR 'N AID 2015

Published in News

Ronnie James Dio's widow/manager Wendy Dio has confirmed

that a modern-day version of HEAR 'N AID, the one-time collaboration of various individual heavy metal/hard rock artists in 1985 to raise money for famine relief in Africa, will be assembled to record a new song that will be released alongside the upcoming reissue of the "Stars" single and video documentary on the making of the original HEAR 'N AID record.

Ronnie James Dio's sinister howl and wicked songcraft bewitched hard rock fans in the seventies and eighties during his memorable stints with ELF, RAINBOW and BLACK SABBATH. In 1983, the singer formed his own band, launching a successful solo career that led to ten studio albums and sales of more than ten million records around the world.
Rhino follows DIO through the band's early years with "A Decade Of Dio: 1983-1993", a new boxed set that brings together the group's first six studio albums, each one featuring newly remastered sound. It includes: "Holy Diver" (1983), "The Last In Line" (1984), "Sacred Heart" (1985), "Dream Evil" (1987), "Lock Up The Wolves" (1990) and "Strange Highways" (1993).
Rhino will release two versions of "A Decade Of Dio: 1983-1993", first on CD and then on vinyl. Both versions come housed in boxes featuring new artwork by Marc Sasso, who was responsible for many of the band's iconic covers. The CD set will debut on July 22 for a list price of $34.98.
The vinyl incarnation of the set will be available on October 4 for $99.98, and comes with a bonus seven-inch single. On the first side is the 1983 version of "Evil Eyes", which was originally released as the b-side on the "Holy Diver" single. In addition, this version is different from the one featured on the 1984 album "The Last In Line". The flip side features "Time To Burn", which was the only studio track featured on the otherwise live release "Intermission" (1986)

Former DIO bassist Jeff Pilson believes that Ronnie James Dio "would have approved" of the legendary singer's hologram, which made its debut at last year's Wacken Open Air festival in Germany. Created by Eyellusion, the surprise appearance of the heavy metal icon during DIO DISCIPLES' set closed out the massive metal event which was attended by more than seventy-five thousand fans.
Asked by the "Music Mania" podcast for his opinion on the Dio hologram, Pilson — who was a member of DIO from 1993 to 1997 and again from 2004 to 2005 — said: "I haven't actually seen it in person, but I've seen some pretty interesting pictures and I saw a video for a moment, and it actually looked really cool to me. I thought they did a great job on it. Again, I haven't seen it in person, but from what I've seen, it looks pretty amazing."
He continued: "Ronnie loved technology, and I think, deep down, he would have loved the thought that that could have happened. And knowing him, 'cause he was quite an imaginative guy, he probably did imagine that something like that could happen. And honestly, I think Ronnie would have approved."

For the fourth consecutive time we gathered at Kyttaro to honor our beloved one Ronnie and be part of the charity action of Rock’n’Roll Children, the Greek Dio tribute band.
