Tarja @ Fuzz Live

Published in Live Reports

This was another of many Tarja shows in front of the Greek crowd that adores her, which means a lot and the expectations are high.

NIGHTWISH keyboardist and main songwriter Tuomas Holopainen has confirmed to Roppongi Rocks in a brand new interview that the band will take what is planned to be a year-long break during all of 2017. "That's the plan, yes," he said. "The last show for this tour is going to happen in October. Then all of 2017 off and back with a vengeance in 2018."

Regarding what he might be doing during NIGHTWISH's time off, Holopainen said: "I don't think I will be doing music. That's the idea of the break. I haven't really given it that much thought. I just enjoy the idea of getting to be at home, doing the gardening, taking care of the horse, just be steady for a while."

Singer Floor Jansen, who made her live debut with NIGHTWISH in 2012 but didn't officially join the band until the following year, was less forthcoming about her plans. She said: "I'm thinking about some ideas but I've nothing official really to share yet." When asked if her REVAMP band is perhaps part of what she is currently considering, she responded: "That's part of the thinking."

Holopainen was also reluctant to share any of NIGHTWISH's plans for when the band returns to live action in 2018. "It's a bit too far away to reveal anything but we know pretty much what the plans are until 2020 or so," he said.

Floor Jansen and Tuomas Holopainen of Nightwish were recently interviewed by Mariskal Rock TV. During their appearance, the pair clarified that Jansen will not leave the band after welcoming her first child in early 2017 during the band's previously announced year-long hiatus.
"It's just a little break that we're taking for about a year after being constantly on the road, in the studio, in the songwriting process for the last twenty years," said Tuomas. "So it's only gonna do good for the health of the band."
Added Floor: "Well, we've had a very, very great tour from the beginning to the end. Nothing bad happened, nothing horrible came in our paths; we just had great show after great show, and great tour after great tour, and great responses from audiences everywhere on the planet. So what more could we possibly wish for?"
Asked directly if there is any truth to rumors that Floor might leave the band prior to Nightwish regrouping in 2018, Tuomas said: "She won't quit." Floor reaffirmed: "No, I won't. I love this way too much; don't worry. You don't even have negative speculations one way or another. Things are great, and let's keep on doing this forever."

Tarja - Act I

Published in CD Reviews
Here comes the first live album by Tarja. And when I say “live album”, I mean a regular live album excluding the usual orchestras, Christmas songs and various other projects that the Finnish singer has come up with in the past. This is what we get when we see Tarja in action with her steady band. This double c.d. feature could have easily been accompanied by the respective DVD, as both depict sonically the same concerts.

If someone was in a dilemma in regards of what to choose out of the two products, I believe that he/she will be inclined towards the purchase of the DVD, not only because there is the visual element (take a look at our review on the DVD section) but also because there are many moments missing on the c.d. that are really essential. I wasn’t really disappointed by the absence of Mike Terrana’s drum solo but mainly because I would have loved to have on c.d. the acoustic parts of the show. As for the inclusion of “Still of the Night”...well, this could easily be characterized as an unfitting addition.

Another striking point –from a negative side- was the interception in between the songs that leaves a lot to be desired when it comes down to the regular flow of a c.d. (the person behind the mix of the album is surely responsible). The final result should have been the one of projecting a complete concert (although we have two different performances here).

Again, I believe that this release should have been a double feature including both the c.d. and the DVD.

Nightwish announced the release of a new DVD from their tour supporting their recent studio album “Endless Forms Most Beautiful”. It will be titled “Vehicle Of Spirit” and will be released on November 4th. It will feature two full shows from London’s Wembley with famous scientist Richard Dawkins joining them on stage and another one from Tampere, Finland, as well as loads of extra stuff. The artwork brings in mind the classic Hollywood silent movies and that decision came about after extended brain storming.

Drummer Jukka Nevalainen rejoined his Nightwish bandmates on stage at Himos Park in Jämsä, Finland on August 20th. Jukka announced in August 2014 that he was taking a break from the band to deal with some health issues.
