Goblin @ Kyttaro

The announcement of Goblin’s show was one of the most pleasant surprises this summer for the fans of this legendary Italian progressive rock band. Most of us had connected it with the memorable soundtracks on movies by Dario Argento, as well as George Romero’s “Dawn Of The Dead”.

It is well known that Morbid Angel is one of the greatest bands in extreme metal. David Vincent was a member of them for many years, having huge contribution in the songwriting of their first four remarkable albums. This tour was made in order to pay tribute to these records and it was something that was in his mind while in his second Morbid era. It finally came to life several months after his departure. In my humble opinion, he has every right to play live songs that he composed and recorded. Athens and Kyttaro Live Club was the last stop of this tour.

I can’t really say that I was expecting more or less people to show up at Kyttaro for this gig. Wednesday is surely an unusual day for a concert in Greece (you see we have our quirks) and Blaze Bayley I can’t say that’s a big enough attraction for metal fans in the year 2017. On the positice side though I have to say that the admission price was very low, thus more attractive for the people.

This event was pure wish fulfillment, and in almost ideal conditions, a headline show indoors. Ministry’s golden years may be behind them, but Al Jourgensen always brings a killer band with him, and of course an impressive back catalogue.

Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances I was unable to watch Void Droid’s set, so let’s get right into the main event: At 21.30 Monster Magnet showed up on the Piraeus Academy stage, and all eyes fell on Dave Wyndorf. The man must have some crazy diet plan going on; Slim like Iggy Pop but with biceps like he just wrapped up his crossfit workout, he looked at least 15 years younger.
