Captain Poon

The news that the ex-Gluecifer guitarist was going to be in Athens as a member of Marky Ramone’s Blitzkrieg was enough to make the waiting for this show unbearable. Rockpages.gr managed to do a video interview just a few hours before the show at the hotel’s roof garden with the Acropolis on the backdrop. Captain Poon is loosened up and feels at ease with his leather jacket on despite the post-summer heat (the interview was filmed in September) that the rain that had just stopped didn’t manage to cool off.

Athens is the last stop of the tour and from the next day everyone is going to follow the road home. The first questions are aimed at the Captain’s latest mission, playing a blitzkrieg of Ramones’ classic stuff. as a fan of the band since his childhood his reaction to the challenge was immediate.
Next subject his current band, Bloodlights, where except from lead guitar he also handles the vocals. With two albums already released the band will get busy as soon as the Captain arrives in Oslo. He describes the style of the music to be harder than his previous outfit.

Of course, Gluecifer could not in any circumstance stay outside the conversation! It’s been 10 years since the band broke up and the fans still hope for a reunion. Having seen the band live back in 2005 I remember their amazing energy and intensity on stage. I also remember how disappointed I felt when I read that they were calling it quits after they reached the peak of their popularity and having released the prophetic “Desolate City” which contained the line: “we are the ending and the start”. Unfortunately, the Captain didn’t leave much room for hope, but you never know…

As a loyal servant of rock’n’roll since his teens the Captain shares his opinion about ambition in rock’n’roll. It migh sound a bit pessimistic, but it’s true to the genre’s underground character. Hope to see him again soon!
