Danger Angel, 4Bitten, BurnOut
Bat City, Athens, Greece
20/07/2010

A hot night was ahead in Bat City, not because of the high temperatures in the capital, but mostly due to the performance of two of the best bands in town, plus Burnout. I am sure I am talking/writing on behalf of several punters who attended the show when I express my shock about Burnout’s repertoire, which was consisted solely of Greek songs. I have nothing against them, but to be honest this kind of setlist doesn’t fit with Danger Angel, or 4Bitten, or even Rockpages’ material. The surprise was though that they invited Jullie Massino, a well-respected singer, vocal teacher, that transformed the rather weak applause the band was getting that far to an loud cries, whistling, and excitement. Julie sung “Simply The Best” to warm up, as well as “Proud Mary”, and “Walking By Myself” with a lot of sing-a-long from the audience.

4Bitten has turned into a live bar of dynamite, a raging bull that can easily take everything on its wild path. This band can easily make new friends from its first notes, while their older ones become fanatics, and it’s very easy to understand why judging by their level of performance, which was earned with endless gigs, and tours like the recent one with MSG, that takes them beyond the Greek borders. Their show in Bat City couldn’t have been an exception. “Have good sound will travel”, I think is going to be my new motto, since that was the best ally for the band in order to unravel their tremendous energy, and play their own stuff, as well as a few covers. Fofi was awesome as always in his vocal duties, taking advantage of her huge potential.  George Maroulis couldn’t stand on the stage for too long, so he decided to climb on a speaker, setting his mic on that height, and putting his Flying V on fire. 4 Bitten’s rhythm section was ready for war, with Akis and Angelos pounding on their bass, and drums, like two battering rams (does this sound familiar?) against the audience that almost filled Bat City, creating a warm, and very enthusiastic atmosphere.

Setlist: Jaded Burnin The Candle, Follow, The Mob Rules (Black Sabbath), Rock N Roll Dream, Over The Mountain (Ozzy), Live 4 Today, Nightrain (Guns'n'Roses), Give Me All Your Love (Whitesnake), Neon Knights (Black Sabbath), No More Sins, Lightnin Crashing

Last but not least, Danger Angel, the more melodic side of hard rock that night, with respect, consistency, and quality. The band looks and sounds tighter than ever, with its five-member line up, raising the par even higher with their own material, and the covers they played for us. MT on vocals was rock steady all night long, and I’d say that his performance is indicative of the entire band, that obviously has spent countless hours rehearsing, and working hard. Another interesting thing to watch was the constant “change of formation” on stage, because of the little space. Of course, that wasn’t a problem for Ahas, on the… “portable” keyboards, who climbed on the same speaker as George from 4Bitten did earlier, and jumped like…Michael Jordan! Antonis Venieris, and Rudy Ralis on drums, and bass were an unstoppable force, raising a wall for guitarist Ethan to attack from… their performance was aided by the decent sound that is essential in order to get a grasp of what Danger Angel is all about… Hope we enjoy this pair of bands again in the future…
